Consciousness is awareness in all its forms. And it comes in many forms – seeing, hearing, feeling (emotionally and in other ways), understanding, and sensing in general. Being more conscious means that you see and hear and feel and understand more. In other words you experience more. You notice more things, but you also notice more about the same things. Your experience deepens.

Being more conscious is immensely useful, because it gives you more, and better, information about yourself, other people, and the world. And really good information is the foundation for wise action, better work, and for a richer, more fulfilling life. Being more conscious is also useful in other ways, because it is the launching pad for “higher consciousness” and for “unusual consciousness”. This needs a little explanation.

By “higher consciousness” we mean the ability to see aspects of people and the world that you would not normally see – specifically their non-physical aspects. Please read “The Non-Physical”, which you will find on the Articles page.

When we say “unusual consciousness”, we mean the ability to know in ways that might seem impossible. Perhaps the best known example of this is telepathy, which means exactly what the word suggests – “distant feeling”. This is all it means, being able to feel someone or something, regardless of how far away they are. Most of us have experienced this in some form at some time. Of course, there are more sophisticated variants, such as being able to transmit feelings to someone at a distance. And there is mental telepathy, the ability to transmit and receive thoughts. In our experience, mental telepathy is very rare indeed.

The point is that “higher consciousness” and “unusual consciousness” are simply forms of consciousness, available to all of us if we are willing to put in the time and the work. In our opinion, the best way to get there is first to become more conscious in the conventional sense, by noticing more and noticing more deeply.
